Federal Agents are in the area and they have breached security at one fire department already.  Be aware and tighten security in all Municipal buildings.  Everyone needs to be challenged and they should have credentials to allow him or her in your buildings.

If you have handicapped people in your community National Organization for Disabilities has some publications you may want.  One is a guide for people with disabilities.  Go to their web site www.nod.org or call 202/293-5900 or FEMA 800-621-3362

New York guy was really good but that is all.  Rest of conference was poor.  A lot of people left the conference early.

Conference is September 3rd, 4th, & 5th 2003 in Springfield at the Crown Plaza.

RED CROSS LIAISON:

Yvette is tied up in TOPOFF2 and wanted to know how far south the exercise is extended to.  Our guess is that 95th street is as far south as it is going.

Members Status:

OLD BUSINESS:

South Holland can’t host the June meeting.  Because of numerous events going on in June we have Cancel the June monthly meeting.

Where are the disks for the directors to use for paging?  The committee has set up quadrants to have directors or someone to page.  No one has volunteered to be coordinator for the Southeast quadrant yet.  All quadrants need to be filled to be able to make the plan function.

Mike Pope volunteered to be southeast coordinator.  John Dobner volunteered to help the quadrant coordinators get up to speed on paging.

We do need to streamline the paging ability.  The page to Blue Island was confusing to some.

We are unable to vote on the by-laws amendment because we lack a quorum.  Jim Dean made motion to table by-laws amendment 2nd by John Thomas.

John Dobner will contact the communities to verify the information that was provided is accurate before printing ID card.

NEW BUSINESS:

Mark Bettenhausen is now the federal Homeland security person.

Some Fire Officials went to DC to lobby for money to come to Illinois.  It seems to have worked.

John Dobner said this is his last meeting as Richton Park representative.  Richton Park gave him no budget to run the ESDA.  John said he would take the summer off and come back in September.  John thanked Dean Bloom for all his help in the past years with Richton Park ESDA.  Dean was a big asset to the Richton Park organization.

Sandy Patlak thanked John for his service to the SMART organization very well.  We all agree that John will be missed because of all the things he has done for SMART.  (Hopefully John will return after a short rest.)

Country Club Hills ESDA has won the Governors hometown award.  They will be going to a presentation in Springfield June 25th.  Way to go Country Club Hills.

Anyone having any info on Grants from FEMA please give Jim Dzurny a call he is looking for information.

Tinley Park has been excepted as a train the trainer for CERT (about 20 Hrs).  He would like to have the support of all the SMART communities.

If you attend the course you will need to establish a citizen corps within 60 days.

South Holland Memorial Day parade is May 26th.  They will need some assistance.

Art Johnson handed out Sauk Village’s Fire bash information.  If anyone can help out at this event let Art know.

ADJOURNED at 21:40 May 8, 2003.  Motion by Sandy Patlak 2nd by John Thomas.

Respectfully Submitted,

Joe Pilch
