CORRESPONDENCE:
Everyone should have received a fax from Cook County to request suspending the siren test Tuesday. It was still the choice of the individual communities to set off sirens or not.
10/13/01 Village of Richton Park parade traffic control help needed at their re-scheduled parade.
ALERT organization sent a letter to some communities requesting them to join the ALERTS. Everyone decided to have Roger send a letter of regrets. Our organization will work with any and all organizations.
TREASURER REPORT:
The checking has $ , the money market has $ , the CD has $ , equals $ . Motion by 2nd by to accept treasurers' report.
Paid Communities: Hometown, Rich Township, Riverdale, South Holland, Thornton, & Tinley Park.
TRAINING:
Anti-Terrorism & law enforcement seminar is scheduled November 6, at the Holiday Inn Rosemont.
Working with the Media class held in Will County 10/24 8:30 - 12:00 cost is $25.00.
COMMUNICATIONS:
Bob Small set off a SMART page on Wednesday about 11:50 AM. Currently no one knows how to get NEXTEL phones to except the SMART pages. We have to look into how we can page.
Joyce Underwood is the new METROCALL representative she can be reached at 630-376-1600 ext. 1749.
October 15th, Weather ALERTS frequencies are being changed from 162.425 to 162.55 for Will & Cook. Midlin weather radios Jim Dean has information on. He is using them in schools today they cost about $33.00.
Bill Potocki contacted all the NEXTEL users to update our list so we can have all communities on together. NEXTEL direct connect Area fleeting is expanding.
EQUIPMENT:
Keep John updated on changes.
November updated packet should be available.
STATE REGION 4:
August 2 rain came and caused Ron Carlson a lot of grief.
Ron Carlson went to a lot of terrorism classes recently.
Ron Carlson has had a number of counties added to his responsibility since Region 3 coordinator retired. Ron has also lost his office assistant.
Do the same things you did for Y2K in planning for terrorist.
There are CERT teams established North, Central, & South.
COOK COUNTY: www.cookcountysheriff.org
Kevin Philipps said thanks for help at traffic stops. Everything seems to be coming together with ESDA and Cook County Sheriff.
Lots of communication is happening between communities and Cook County office either through phone calls or email.
Resource guide should be ready for November.
Mayors will receive some guidelines on terrorism & threat assessment. (This is the self-assessment each town should be doing that Kevin talked about last month.)
Workmen's Compensation - IEMA, as an organization won't sanction Workmen's Compensation claims. Local communities will need to assure that all members are covered through their towns.
Policy use to be that accredited ESDA's called state to notify them that they were out on call. If the public act is amended you won't need to do this after January 2002.
EMA funds could still be available to those that are getting them as long as requirements are met.
If we are on MABAS box Fire department is covered but not ESDA? Local support won't be cover on a statewide disaster (if deployed in state). What about assisting next door? (Good question)
Every ESDA should call your workmen's compensation carrier to verify. Make sure you get the response in writing.
WILL COUNTY:
No Report
LEGISLATIVE LIAISON:
There is supposed to be a bill coming to modify franchise agreements with utilities (easement). If you currently don't have an infrastructure maintenance fee assessed on tax bills you could loss money.
IEMA (Illinois Emergency Management Association):
Conference in April.
RED CROSS LIAISON:
Debra Daum has resigned from her Red Cross position.
OLD BUSINESS:
Accountability tags will be reviewed by Bob Small and the committee. There are expensive and reasonable priced ones on the market. The committee is currently looking at tags with a Velcro type attachment. Passport System is recommended by Country Club Hills Fire Department, it seems to be the easiest to use. The committee will need to know the vehicle and how many tags are needed for your personal. SMART would buy a board for each command center, currently 3 total.
If you want to use email to get some information you need to let us know your email address.
Park Forest Fire Department is having a parade for fallen Fire Fighters. If you want to participate in this parade call the Park Forest fire department. Don't just show up for the parade, cause they won't let you participate.
NEW BUSINESS:
Is there a way of finding out if grants are available? It would be nice to have listing on how to get grants, like Illinois First. The best way in most cases is to call your state representative and ask.
John Dobner will make arrangements for a December ESDA Christmas dinner motion by Bob Small, 2nd by John Ranieri.
ADJOURNED at 21:35 October 4, 2001.
Respectfully Submitted,
Joe Pilch
SMART Secretary
